Deech call for reform to be considered

A government minister has pledged to consider calls to raise the age of criminal responsibility and not hold trials of children in open adult courts.

During a debate in the Lords, justice minister Lord Tom McNally said that he will pass her concerns on to the Ministry of Justice for consideration.
The government has agreed to examine the legal process for young defendants and witnesses following concerns raised over the case of two 10-year-olds boys convicted of attempting to rape an eight-year-old girl.
