INTERNATIONAL NETWORK
During the period 2005–2009, an informal group of parliamentarians, sympathetic to the mission of the Coexistence Trust were invited to join as members by HRH Prince Hassan Bin Talal of Jordan and Lord Janner of Braunstone QC. Currently, the figures stand at 120 members across 54 countries. This network has the potential to act as an unparalleled source of international political support. Our aim now is to revitalise and re-energise this network of Muslim and Jewish parliamentarians through the following activities:
- Influence policy and raise awareness. To work for the benefit of Muslim and Jewish communities within national government and representative bodies.
- Advocacy:
+ To assist member countries to counteract Islamophobia and antisemitism.
+ Provide a platform for and support existing efforts at dialogue and exchange, especially amongst the young.
+ To act as a convener, so that members can develop understanding and explore best practices.
- Mediate conflict. To discreetly explore avenues for conflict resolution and mediation on key issues between communities in member countries.
- Meetings and conferences. We will convene a meeting of The Coexistence Trust's International Network, so that members can develop understanding and explore best practices. The first such meeting is being discussed for Doha, Qatar in late October 2009 with the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
- Regional visits. We will continue to be in communication with our members to learn about specific countries’ situations and build support for the Trust among new stakeholder groups.
