STUDENT LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT DAYS

In March 2009, The Coexistence Trust convened a day of leadership training for close to 100 student society leaders at the Houses of Parliament on ‘Faith Communities & Political Engagement’. As a result of this day we:

- Launched a national online network of student leaders and activists across a range of faiths.

- Took feedback about the issues being faced by student groups on campus.

- Provided a neutral space for people to meet and make new contacts.

- Gave students further leadership opportunities (i.e. three were accepted onto the Three Faiths Forum’s Parliamentors programme, two were accepted onto the Faith in Leadership Programme, one was accepted onto the Faith Act Fellows being run by the Tony Blair Faith Foundation).

In the coming year, The Coexistence Trust will seek to build on our shared networks and activities by holding a series of leadership development seminars. These will enhance leadership capacity in student faith communities and explore the means of developing effective communication between them. Our initiatives are aimed at student leaders from University campuses across the UK and will enable them to:

- Share their ideas and get peer-to-peer feedback on projects, activities and events.

- Engage with our organisations in an open forum of debate on critical issues affecting interfaith relations on campus thereby facilitating a synergistic approach to campus relations.

- Meet others from across the country who are facing similar challenges in the field and who would benefit from sharing good practice.
